This coin ring is made from a 1961 Franklin half dollar. 1961 Franklin half dollars are 90% silver.
The ring as shown is size 8 with a 6.3mm band width and a natural polish finish. An aged patina finish is also available. The ring can be sized up or down, up to one full size.
The Franklin half dollar, minted from 1948 through 1963, was
designed by John R. Sinnock. His initials appear below the shoulder. The
liberty bell on the reverse of the coin was modeled after a sketch by John
Frederick Lewis. John R. Sinnock was hired as an assistant engraver by George
T. Morgan, the designer of the Liberty Walking half dollar. He became the 8th
Chief Engraver for the U.S. Mint upon George T. Morgan’s death in 1925. In
addition to the Franklin half dollar, John R. Sinnock also designed the
Roosevelt dime and was involved in the design of the Purple Heart medal.
An urban legend born from the “red scare” grew claiming that
the designer’s initials, JS, on the Roosevelt dime, stood for Josef Stalin. This
rumor gained traction again in 1948 with the release of the Franklin half
dollar.
Franklin half dollars are 90% silver and 10% copper.
